About Matt Rucker

With the cost of a transplant often exceeding $500,000, many transplant families are unable to shoulder the financial burden of such a procedure.  The Children’s Organ Transplant Association (COTA) is a national charity dedicated to organizing and guiding communities in raising funds for transplant-related expenses.  In Georgetown, volunteers are raising funds for COTA in honor of transplant patients like local teen, Matt Rucker.

Matt is the son of Richard and Shannan Rucker.  Born on August 08, 1995, Matt was diagnosed with Severe Aplastic Anemia.  The doctors at Duke University Medical Center in Durham, North Carolina, performed a life-saving bone marrow transplant on September 17, 2013.  An estimated $50,000 is being raised by Georgetown volunteers.
